Outlander Locations Tour
Our Outlander Tour will begin at the majestic Doune Castle which was the setting for the fictional Castle Leoch. In the TV series this is the home of the MacKenzies but was the real home of Robert Stewart who was king in all but name in the late 14th and early 15th century. We will then head over to West Lothian and visit the “ship that never sailed” at Blackness Castle. This castle on the Forth provided the setting for the Fort William Headquarters of Black Jack Randall. We then move onto the stunning Linlithgow Palace which was used for filming the Wentworth Prison scenes. This amazing Stewart Royal Palace was the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots in 1542. The next stop on this incredible tour after crossing the Forth and viewing the UNESCO World Heritage Rail Bridge will be the town of Culross which was the setting for a number of scenes in Outlander including the setting of the fictional village of Cranesmuir. Here we will stop at the Mercat Cross and visit the herb gardens at Culross Palace that Claire spent time in. While in Culross we can make the short walk to the West Kirk which was the Black Kirk in the TV Series. Our journey concludes with a visit to Falkland which will be instantly recognised to Outlander fans as the 1940’s Inverness where Frank and Claire visit.
