Description
This trip has a focus on the regeneration of the Canal Structure with the wondrous scenery of the Trossachs and the Southern Highlands.
The day will begin with visits to the Magnificent Falkirk wheel which is a boat lift replacing the old Lock structure and joins the Forth and Clyde and Union canals. A trip on one of the barges can be booked in advance and you can marvel at how little energy is used to balance the wheel structure as you are lifted 35 metres in the air. Immediately after we will travel 5 miles further down to the iconic sculptures of the Kelpies which have become the most well recognised structures in the whole country.
We will then travel the short distance to Inchmahome Priory and get the boat out to the small island and wander the grounds of the ruined Abbey which was visited by Robert the Bruce and used to shelter the young Mary Queen of Scots during the Rough wooing. We will then travel through some magnificent scenery to Loch Lomond for lunch before heading to the viewpoint at the Rest and Be Thankful.
The day will end with a visit to Rob Roy’s bathtub at the Falls of Falloch and consider the scenic Highlands beyond.
